We Grow Goodness!

Foothill Greenhouses Ltd. is a family farm, owned and operated by Ron Voorberg. We are located just on the North end of the Greater Toronto Area, in the area known as the Holland Marsh. First established in the late 1950's, the farm has been dedicated to producing excellent greenhouse vegetables since day one. Over the years, we have developed principles and practices that enable us to meet this goal, and at the same time thrive and grow as a business.

In regards to our practices and policies, we take great care in maintaining a standard of safety on our farm. Farms over the years have become more dangerous places due to the steadily increasing reliance on heavy and sometimes complex machinery. With thorough employee training, and daily reminders that safety is a priority, we have an impressive record of health and safety at our facilities.

At Foothill we also take great care in maintaining the safety of the food we produce, as we understand that our end-product will eventually be directly consumed by millions of adults and children every year. Regular independent party inspections have always yielded exceptionally positive results, and yet we continue to strive for improvement every chance we have.

Another goal that Foothill owns is to be progressive and innovative in the ways that we operate. In the 1980's we began burning ground up wood-waste and sawdust to heat the water used in our greenhouse heating lines. At the time, this was considered an unusual move, as many other greenhouses were opting for more conventional fuel sources such as heavy oil and natural gas. While we now supplement our system with natural gas, over the years, the wood-burning boilers have been a key factor to our growth and success.
